Security & Etiquette

The main entrance to the 14B District Court is monitored by security equipment and staffed by security personnel. This notice is issued pursuant to MCR 8.110 and the inherent authority of the Chief Judge to ensure the safety and security of the Court and all individuals in attendance.

Litigants and visitors should plan to arrive early to allow sufficient time for security screening prior to court proceedings.

All packages are subject to inspection. Dangerous or illegal objects will be seized and will not be returned.

Prohibited Items in the Courthouse
The following items are not permitted in the building:

  • Firearms, knives, razors, scissors, box cutters, or weapons of any kind
  • Sprays of any type (including pepper spray)
  • Food or beverages (except for identified jurors)

Prohibited Items in the Courtroom
The following items are not permitted in any courtroom:

  • Weapons of any kind
  • Electronic equipment, unless expressly authorized by the Court
  • Inappropriate attire, including clothing with profanity, depictions of violence or sexual acts, or messages promoting drug or alcohol use.
  • Hats are not permitted, except those worn for religious purposes
  • Food, beverages, chewing gum, or tobacco products
  • Newspapers

Courtroom Etiquette & Electronic Devices
Security staff may remove offenders, and judges may hold violators in contempt of court.

  • Disruptive behavior will not be tolerated by adults or children
  • Cell phones and pagers must remain on silent mode throughout the courthouse
  • Use of cell phones is not permitted inside courtrooms
  • Recording of court proceedings is strictly prohibited
