Entry Level Firefighters
Entry Level Firefighter Application Process

The Charter Township of Ypsilanti is accepting Entry Level Firefighter applications packets. This process will be used to establish an eligibility list to fill open positions.  Duties of a firefighter include work in the protection of life and property; operate and assist in maintaining equipment, apparatus, and facilities; and to participate in rescue and fire prevention activities.
Part-Time Building Attendant
Position serves as a receptionist for the Community Center located at 2025 E. Clark Rd. Primary responsibilities include monitoring facility use, taking building reservations and program registration, customer service on phone and in-person.

Starting Salary: $20.42/hour (as of January 1, 2026)

Summary
This position performs as a receptionist to the users of the recreation center. Opens and secures the building, monitors facility use, take building reservations and program registrations.

Supervision Received
This position is under the general direction of the Recreation Director. Duties performed according to established procedures and techniques.

Responsibilities and Duties
An employee in this position may be called upon to do any or all of the following essential duties: (These examples do not include all of the duties the employee may be expected to perform).
  1. May open the community center building and rooms needed for program use.
  2. May perform security checks incidental to the work: Checking doors and windows, securing building at the end of the business day.
  3. Accept program registrations, rental applications, court reservations and fees. Review forms for completeness and enter into computerized system to generate receipt. Cash out register and lock up money at the end of shift.
  4. Ensure facilities are used in a safe manner and that proper footwear is worn on court surfaces.
  5. Enforce building use rules and regulations as well as department policy.
  6. Provide help to public including but not limited to program information, program location, policies and procedures.
  7. Distribute equipment to facility users.
  8. Perform light maintenance duties as needed: Restock paper dispensers in restroom’s, wipe up spills, etc.
  9. Perform related duties as required

Accounting Director
The Charter Township of Ypsilanti is a family-oriented community of over 50,000 residents located on the eastern edge of Washtenaw County. This position falls under the general direction of the Township Clerk, or their designee. As the Accounting Director, you will be responsible for planning, organizing, developing, and directing all accounting programs, methods, and controls, as well as providing administrative support and direction to other departments regarding fiscal management and financial controls. Assists the Township Supervisor in preparing the annual budget by auditing and analyzing information for budget proposals, and carrying out various tasks related to budget adjustments. Research and initiates recommendations for policy and procedural changes, establishes and directs general accounting methods and internal accounting controls,
prepares trial balances and financial reports and maintains the general ledger. As part of this position, you will maintain confidentiality of sensitive and/or personal information. The Accounting Director works in-office at the Charter Township of Ypsilanti Civic Center. This is a non-union position.

Starting Salary: $90,000 (commensurate with education and work experience)

  • Minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field. 
  • Five years of Township or municipal financial experience, or similar, providing a knowledge of municipal accounting, municipal organization, and federal and state regulations regarding governmental accounting and financial management. The township, at its discretion, may consider an alternative combination of formal education and work experience.
  • Valid Michigan Vehicle Operator’s License.
  • Ability to manage and lead the financial operation and direct and supervise the staff and accounting functions of the department.
  • Extensive knowledge of the principles and practices of finance and governmental accounting methods and procedures, budgetary, fiscal management, procurement, internal controls, and public administration principles.
  • Extensive knowledge of applicable local, state and federal laws, rules and regulations, risk management principles, reviewing, interpreting and communicating financial information, and preparing and administering budgets.
  • Skill in assembling and analyzing data and preparing comprehensive and accurate reports.
  • Skill in effectively communicating ideas and concepts orally and in writing.
  • Ability to establish effective working relationships and use good judgment, initiative and resourcefulness when dealing with township employees, contractors to the township, representatives of other governmental units, professional contacts, elected officials and the public.
  • Skill in the use of office equipment and technology, including Microsoft Suite applications and financial and enterprise software (such as BS&A) and the ability to learn new software programs applicable to the position.
  • Skill in grant financial administration, reconciliation, and reporting is preferred.

The Accounting Director performs duties with a high degree of confidentiality, independence, and is accountable for achieving results. Work performance is evaluated through established schedules, as well as the review of final reports and audit outcomes.

Supervision Exercised
Directly supervises a small staff of accounting clerks performing payroll and accounts payable functions.

Responsibilities and Duties
An employee in this position may do any or all the following essential duties. (These examples do not include all

  • Responsible for certain payroll and accounts payable functions, fixed assets, finance and general ledger calculations, reconciliations, and data entry. Responsible for employee training, assigning work, scheduling, performance evaluation and employee relations.
  • Produces and disseminates financial statements in accordance with generally accepted governmental accounting principles, including preparation of non-routine and adjusting journal entries, analysis of various financial data, and control and maintenance of the general ledger system for the Township and component units.
  • Upgrade existing and develop new systems and procedures for reporting financial data, ensuring internal controls, and general financial operations. Includes overseeing, auditing, and assisting other departments relating to payroll and accounts payable policies and procedures. Initiates and implements changes in various systems and procedures; advises, coordinates, and trains individuals in the financial operations of all departments; and ensures compliance with Federal and State regulations.
  • In coordination with the Township Supervisor, plans, organizes, and directs the Township budgeting methods and process. Includes assembling and publishing Township and component unit budgets, participating in departmental budget reviews and Township Board Workshops prior to budget adoption. Assists in creating budgets for revenues and expenditures, Special Revenue Fund Budgets, Debt Service Fund Budgets and individual project budgets. Participates in the presentation of budgets and analysis to Township Board. Monitors budgets including development of periodic amendments, status reports and analysis.
  • Directs preparation for the annual audit of Township financial records, including preparation of account analysis, confirmation letters, reporting of projects, and obtaining records. Prepares periodic requests for audit fee proposals.
  • Conducts analysis and estimates of Township revenues and monitors and ensures proper controls for the entire revenue stream. Also reviews and advises departments concerning various fees and charges.
  • Develops various analysis and statistical reports relating to financial matters, including rates, fees, and benefits.
  • Develops, implements, and maintains the fixed asset inventory of accounts.
  • Develop and prepare financial information and analysis reports relating to all financial matters as necessary and as requested, including preparation of annual administrative cost allocation among various funds.
  • Develops and maintains financial records and schedules on pension program contributions, special projects, debt service accounts, payroll deductions, and other functions as assigned. Prepares and submits required reporting for grants and other similar projects
  • Ensure that all aspects of the Township’s financial infrastructure have sufficient internal controls, are reviewed and adjusted as needed, and that all employees involved with financial transactions have appropriate separation of duties.
  • Assists the Treasurer and Deputy Treasurer with Treasury functions including banking, tax, cash receipts, and receivables so that they are all completed appropriately and develops procedures and reports to ensure that systems can be reconciled with the General Ledger.
  • Ensures that Clerk functions including accounts payable and various payroll and vendor reports to State and Federal government agencies are all completed and filed appropriately.
  • Advises various employees and department heads regarding budgeting, accounts payable, and finance matters.
  • Perform other duties as may be required and assigned.

Green Oaks Golf Course is seeking individuals to fill current openings for Golf Shop Attendant positions. Individuals should be friendly, have a positive attitude, and be detailed and customer service oriented.

Essential Job Functions: Assist with daily Pro Shop operations including opening and closing the golf shop, interacting with guests during their visit, answering phone calls for golf tee times, and providing general golf course information. Experience with computers and cash registers is preferred but not required. Applicants must be available and willing to work evenings, weekends and holidays. Minimum 18 years old. Green Oaks Golf Course is seeking individuals to fill current openings for the Seasonal Cart Attendant positions. Individuals should be enthusiastic, self-starting and customer service oriented.

Essential Job Functions: Primarily responsible with the delivery, staging, cleanliness, and storing of the golf cart fleet. Deliver and promote prompt, courteous and friendly service to all guests. Duties will also include preserving the upkeep of outside areas and assisting the Pro Shop staff when needed with other general assignments. Applicants must be available and willing to work evenings, weekends and holidays. Minimum 16 years old.

Pay: $13.75 - $16.00/hour

Player Assistants/Starters
Green Oaks Golf Course is seeking individuals to fill current openings for Player Assistant/Starter positions. Individuals should be friendly and be customer service oriented.

Essential Job Functions: Primarily responsible for monitoring the proper pace of play of players on the course and observe that patrons are always adhering to proper cart and golf course rules. As a starter, assists the golf shop by making sure that golfers are teeing off in an orderly and timely manner. May assist with outside outings or events as needed and help to keep the golf course clean by disposing of trash or debris. Minimum 18 years old. Must have a valid Driver’s License with a good driving record.

Pay: $13.75 - $15.00/hour

Golf Course Laborer
Green Oaks Golf Course is seeking individuals to fill current openings for golf course laborer positions.

Essential job functions: Primary responsibilities include assisting with daily ground maintenance to keep the golf course healthy and thriving. Other duties include raking leaves, picking up trash and debris, removing cuttings, and possibly assisting with irrigation issues. Qualified individuals must be able to safely operate ground equipment (lawn mower, weed whip, etc.) and have ability to perform physical labor in conditions of extreme heat and inclement weather. Minimum 18 years old. Must have a valid Driver’s License with a good driving record.

Pay: $14.00 - $18.00/hour

Seasonal Park/Ground Maintenance
Seasonal Park/ Grounds Maintenance involves maintaining parks and public grounds in Ypsilanti Township. Responsibilities include mowing, trimming, cleanup, trash collection, operating landscaping equipment, and performing basic maintenance such as painting, cleaning, and minor repairs. This position requires physical outdoor work in various weather conditions. Schedules may vary based on weather and operational needs and may include daytime hours, weekends, and holidays. Positions may begin as early as March or April and continue through September or November. Applicants must be at least 18 years old and possess a valid driver’s license with satisfactory driving record.

Pay: $18.00-$20.00
Dates: March -November
Number of positions: 15-20

Park Ranger
Responsibilities include patrolling and surveillance of the Townships park system; enforcement of park rules and ordinances; park security; supervision of park attendants; public relations; light maintenance.  The park system is staffed seven days/week, from dawn to dusk (weekday evenings and weekends).  We are looking for individuals with experience in security and/or law enforcement.  A background in parks & recreation is preferred. Desirable skills include strong public relations and conflict resolution.  Individuals in this position also help with Community Events. Minimum 18 years old. Must have valid Driver’s License with good driving record.

Pay: $16.00 – $18.00 per hour
Dates: May – Labor Day weekend
Number of positions available: 3-4

Park Attendants
Responsibilities include public relations; monitoring park capacity; collecting park entry fees and issuing change; monitor boat launch; light maintenance around gate house.  The park system is staffed seven days/week, from dawn to dusk.  Skills needed include experience in handling money; keeping financial records; public relations; and customer service. Knowledge of POS systems is desirable.  Individuals in this position also help with Community Events.  Minimum 16 years old.

Pay: $14.00- $16.00 per hour

Compost Site Gate Attendant
The Compost Gate Attendant is responsible for the daily operation of the site entrance and gatehouse, ensuring efficient customer service, accurate transaction processing, and compliance with site regulations. This position plays a key role in maintaining a safe, clean, and organized environment for residents and customers.

Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Greet and check in residents and customers entering the Compost Site in a professional and courteous manner
  • Process all transactions accurately using a point-of-sale (POS) system
  • Balance and reconcile the cash drawer at the end of each shift
  • Conduct visual inspections and measure incoming materials, including trash and yard waste, to ensure compliance with site policies
  • Direct customers to appropriate designated drop-off areas
  • Monitor and enforce site rules and safety procedures
  • Maintain the cleanliness and general upkeep of the gatehouse and all designated drop-off areas
  • Report any issues, violations, or safety concerns to supervisory staff
Year-round employment, except for seasonal closure in January and February
Compensation: $17.00 – $20.00 per hour, depending on qualifications and experience.
