Local Consumer Fireworks Ordinance
Residents are respectfully asked to follow all safety rules and legal requirements when igniting fireworks in neighborhoods. Please be respectful of others in your neighborhood who may be adversely affected by long periods of loud explosions from fireworks displays.
Ypsilanti Township has the right to prohibit the use of fireworks on any day of the year except for:
- New Year’s Eve Fireworks permitted December 31st, 11:00am - 1:00am.
- Memorial Day Fireworks permitted Saturday & Sunday preceding Memorial Day, 11:00am - 11:45pm. Fireworks are NOT allowed on Memorial Day (Monday).
- Juneteenth Fireworks permitted June 19th, 11:00am - 1:00am on June 20th.
- Independence Day Fireworks permitted June 29th -July 4th, 11:00am - 11:45pm. (July 5th is permitted if that date is a Friday or Saturday, until 11:45pm).
- Labor Day Fireworks permitted Saturday & Sunday preceding Labor Day, 11:00am - 11:45pm. Fireworks are NOT allowed on Labor Day (Monday).
Unlawful use of fireworks can be reported to the Washtenaw County Sheriff's Office by calling (734) 994 - 2911 for non-emergency police service. Emergencies including injuries and fires due to fireworks explosions should be reported using 911. Violators are subject to a civil infraction punishable by a fine of $1,000 for each occurrence.
